In the remaining Lame Duck session of Congress, they need to approve a disaster funding bill that provides assistance for agriculture due to natural disasters including hurricanes and drought.

In addition, the current dire economic circumstances throughout most of the agriculture industry are driving the need for economic assistance in response to low commodity prices and high input costs.

This is all against the backdrop of needing to extend the current Farm Bill for yet another year and will become a focus in the next Congress – as the need for a strengthened, long-term safety net becomes more critical each day.
